Highlights of Myanmar Nature & Wildlife Tours

Myanmar is the largest country on the mainland of Southeast Asia, featuring a continuous coastline of almost 2,000 km extending along the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea, offering a plethora of attractions for wildlife and nature lovers. Surrounded by picturesque mountain ranges on all sides, Inle Lake in Nyaungshwe is a shallow freshwater lake offering a poetic and incredibly charming landscape. It is also home to a wildlife sanctuary with woodland and wetland birds, multiple species of aquatic animals, insects, amphibians, reptiles, and even the rarest species of animals like the worldwide-endangered sarus cranes. Well known as Myanmar’s premier tourist attraction, Bagan has more than 2,000 temples, pagodas, and stupas that span the vast plains east of the Irrawaddy River. Although the popular way to explore these temples is by riding a bicycle or sitting on a horse-cart, taking a hot-air balloon during a sunrise or sunset is another incredible way to get a panoramic view of the Bagan temples in the vast and windswept plains. Located on the east bank of the Irrawaddy River, Mandalay is the economic center of Upper Myanmar and also the only place in the country where one can take a boat trip to see the endangered Irrawaddy dolphins. Home to a number of animal sanctuaries and parks, Myanmar boasts a wide range of animals, including clouded leopards, water buffaloes, Asian elephants, and tigers. Bird-watchers can also revel in the array of exotic species, with more than 690 different species of birds spotted in Myanmar.
