Highlights of Vietnam Thailand Tours

Southeast Asia is a popular travel destination of rich history and culture, stunning natural landscape, friendly people and delicious cuisine. Standing out from others, Thailand and Vietnam are quintessential stops, particularly for first-time visitors to this region. Both countries present a rich tapestry of experiences, intertwining vibrant urban environments, time-honored temples with unspoiled beaches and breathtaking terrains.

Architecture is the big difference between the two countries since you won't find any French colonial sites in Thailand as you will in Vietnam. For some reasons, Thailand is the only country in Southeast Asia that was never colonized by an European power. The traditional characteristics of Thai architecture are steeply-sloping tile roofs with up turned edges, open air spaces and lush gardens reflected in some typical temples such as Wat Arun, Wat Phra Kaew Temples and The Grand Palace in Bangkok; Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, Wat Phra Singh and Wat Umong Temples in Chiang Mai; Wat Rong Khun, Wat Rong Suea Ten Temples and The Black House in Chiang Rai...

Both countries have landscapes that fascinated, nevertheless, many would say Vietnam’s are more dramatic. Occupying a long, thin part of the Indochinese peninsula, Vietnam has a unique and diverse natural landscape that spans from north to south with rice paddies, breathtaking beaches, imposing mountains to lush forests... Standing out among them are Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark in Ha Giang, Hoang Lien Son mountain range and Muong Hoa Valley in Sapa, Ban Gioc Waterfall in Cao Bang, the unique ecosystems in the Mekong Delta, the beautiful turquoise bay dotted with tropical islands in Nha Trang...

For party-goers, Bangkok undoubtedly is the top choice offering everything for a night out, including massage parlors, go-go bars and high-end clubs. This huge metropolis is an enticing mix of old and new, chaos and calm featuring trendy rooftop bars overlooking golden temples, colourful tuk-tuks maneuvering beneath modern sky trains and back-alley street food vendors among fine dining restaurants. Fill up on fresh tropical fruit at Damnoen Saduak floating market, discover the magnificent Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, wander down the backpacker mecca of Khaosan Road to sample the local food, then try a foot massage in Rambuttri Road nearby.

Eventhough not sharing a border, it is still very easy to combine Vietnam and Thailand in one trip via direct flights from major cities in Thailand such as Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai to major cities in Vietnam such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. A short flight time of 2-3 hours only between the two countries depending on each route is an encourage for one to get an in-depth explore of Southeast Asia and an advantage for a strong desire to return.

Why choose Vietnam Thailand Tours?

Diverse Cultural Experiences in Vietnam and Thailand

Both Vietnam and Thailand boast histories that stretch back thousands of years, with cultures that have been shaped by both local traditions and foreign influences.

  • Vietnam is a country steeped in history, from its ancient temples and colonial architecture to its struggle for independence. A visit to historical sites like the Imperial City of Hue, the My Son Sanctuary, and the Cu Chi Tunnels offers a glimpse into the nation's tumultuous past and rich cultural heritage.
  • Thailand, also known as the "Land of Smiles," has a fascinating blend of ancient traditions and modern influences. Explore the majestic Grand Palace in Bangkok, the ancient temples of Ayutthaya, and the sacred Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai, where you'll encounter Buddhism in its purest form, alongside vibrant local festivals and customs.

By traveling through both countries, you’ll experience a rare mix of shared Southeast Asian cultural elements while also witnessing the distinct identities of each nation.

Home to Stunning Natural Wonders

From lush jungles to white sandy beaches, Vietnam and Thailand offer some of the most spectacular landscapes in the world. Vietnam is a haven for nature lovers, with the World Heritage site of Halong Bay, the terraced rice fields of Sapa, the lush Mekong Delta, and the dramatic landscapes of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. Meanwhile, Thailand is home to some of the world’s most beautiful beaches at Phuket, Krabi, and the Phi Phi Islands, perfect for sunbathing, snorkeling, and diving. Inland, the jungles and mountains of Chiang Mai offer serene trekking routes, waterfalls, and a chance to interact with local hill tribes.

Delicious Vietnamese and Thai Cuisines

One of the most exciting aspects of traveling through Vietnam and Thailand is the opportunity to experience some of the best cuisine in Asia. Vietnamese food is fresh, flavorful, and diverse, and its street food culture is thriving in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, where you can taste dishes that are as varied as the regions they come from. Thai cuisine, known for its balance of sweet, salty, sour, and spicy, is equally mouthwatering, with pad Thai, tom yum, and papaya salad. A Vietnam Thailand tour offers a culinary journey that will tantalize your taste buds and introduce you to a whole new world of flavors.

One of the highlights of traveling to Vietnam and Thailand is the warmth and hospitality of the locals. The Vietnamese are famous for their friendliness and willingness to share their culture, while the Thai people are renowned for their kindness and generosity. Whether you’re navigating the busy streets of Hanoi, bargaining in Bangkok’s markets, or visiting a village in the countryside, you'll find the people in both countries to be eager to share their culture and traditions with you.

Best time to take Vietnam Thailand Tours

Vietnam and Thailand, two of Southeast Asia’s most vibrant and culturally rich countries, offer unique experiences year-round. However, choosing the right time to visit can significantly enhance your journey by ensuring favorable weather and maximizing your travel plans.

Best time to visit Vietnam

Northern Vietnam (Hanoi, Halong Bay, Sapa): The best time to visit is from October to April, when the weather is cool and dry. Avoid the summer months (May to August), as this region experiences heavy rains and high humidity.

Central Vietnam (Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An): The dry season from February to August is perfect for exploring the ancient towns, beaches, and cultural sites. The rainy season (September to January) may bring typhoons, so plan accordingly.

Southern Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta, Phu Quoc): The dry season from November to April offers sunny skies and mild temperatures. This is the best time for island hopping and exploring the Mekong Delta.

Best time to visit Thailand

Cool Season (November to February): This is the peak tourist season, with mild temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C (68°F to 86°F). It’s an excellent time for sightseeing in Bangkok, relaxing on the beaches of Phuket, or exploring the mountainous regions of Chiang Mai.

Hot Season (March to May): Temperatures can reach above 35°C (95°F) in the central and northern regions. While it’s hot, this period coincides with Songkran (Thai New Year) in April, a lively water festival worth experiencing.

Rainy Season (June to October): This season brings monsoons, particularly to the western Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi). However, the eastern Gulf islands (Koh Samui, Koh Phangan) remain relatively dry and are ideal for travel.

Best time to visit Vienam Thailand

For travelers looking to visit both Vietnam and Thailand in a single trip, November to February is considered the optimal time to visit. The weather in both countries is generally pleasant during this period, allowing you to enjoy the beaches, cultural attractions, and outdoor activities comfortably. This is also when both destinations see fewer rainy days, ensuring you get the most out of your vacation without worrying about unpredictable weather.

Most Popular Destinations on Vietnam Thailand Tours

Hanoi

One city, two sides, yin and yang - an ancient culture and modern influence, tranquility and chaos, tradition and innovation. The capital of Vietnam maintains a captivating balance between retaining the original charm of its rich history and culture and adapting it to contemporary values from around the world. The face of Hanoi includes the villas of the former French colonial period, the iconic old condominiums, tree-lined boulevards, a world of cafes, some great northern Vietnamese cuisine, and its unforgettable, noisy, colorful street life.

Halong Bay

If you are staying in Hanoi, there is undoubtedly no better way to escape the city’s bustling life than by cruising Halong Bay overnight. This UNESCO World Heritage site is famed for its stunning limestone karsts that rise dramatically from the bay’s deep blue waters. Watch the sun set from the cruise ship’s deck and fall asleep to the gentle sound of waves lapping against the boat.

Sapa

Trekking is a must when visiting Sapa. This former French hill station, established in the late 1880s, has a network of trails to trek, suitable for all levels - from easy to the more challenging routes. Hike through ethnic minority villages, pass terraced rice fields and rolling mountains, and get a glimpse into the local cultures nestled within Sapa’s stunning natural beauty.

Hue

Hue, located in Central Vietnam, is best known for its royal mausoleums, the former imperial citadel, and iconic pagodas. Boasting a fantastic and rich cuisine, the city is not only a favorite destination for those who love architecture, but it is also a mecca for those on a gastronomic tour. For history buffs, the region still has several remnants from the Vietnam War, such as a military base and tunnels in the DMZ.

Hoi An

Hoi An, awash with its famous bright yellow ochre facades, has retained a wealth of cultural and historical attractions. Meander the narrow alleyways of the ancient town, where medieval two-story wooden buildings seem frozen in time. See Hoi An at night, brimming with a myriad of colorful lanterns; visit the old congregation halls of the town’s former Chinese community; sample a huge variety of cuisine; hire a bike and cycle down the alleys and lanes and further afield to explore the surrounding countryside.

Ho Chi Minh City

Cosmopolitan Ho Chi Minh City is Hanoi’s southern counterpart. It is Vietnam’s largest city and the country’s business and financial center. Visit the War Remnants Museum and the Reunification Palace, sip coffee at one of the many picturesque coffee shops, and party the night away at some of Vietnam’s best rooftops.

The Mekong Delta

The Mekong Delta neighbors Ho Chi Minh City, making it close enough to visit on a day tour. Explore the waterways, mangrove forests, and lush green rice fields where life is governed by the ebb and flow of Southeast Asia’s most iconic river - the Mekong River. For an immersive experience, we recommend spending one or two nights in one of the riverside towns or taking a longer trip to travel by boat down the Mekong into Cambodia.

Bangkok

Bangkok, a bustling capital, is a must-see city with a network of canals and rivers meandering through neighborhoods and past golden temples. These waterways are also home to many of Bangkok’s famous floating markets, with royal palaces and awe-inspiring temples along the riverbanks. Tucked away amidst glass skyscrapers are an abundance of food and wet markets, incredible parks, and some of the most mesmerizing Buddhist temples in Thailand.

Kanchanaburi

Kanchanaburi is a small, quiet town in west-central Thailand, known mainly for its leading role during the Japanese invasion in World War II, when over 200,000 allied and Asian prisoners of war were forced to build the Death Railway. Nowadays, Kanchanaburi is a beautiful, peaceful place with stunning natural beauty as well as its historical significance. It’s a destination that offers adventures in the great outdoors and a sobering look at the past.

Ayutthaya

Built by King U-Thong in 1350, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya represents 400 years of the golden past of the Kingdom of Siam. It was the capital of Thailand until 1767, when the neighboring Burmese invaded and destroyed the entire city. Nowadays, visitors can still admire the splendor of historic ruins recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on a one-day trip from Bangkok.

Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is a charming city with a perfect blend of the laid-back north, incredible mountains, and an array of historically rich architecture. Surrounded by the time-worn walls of Lanna, the old city of Chiang Mai is home to stunning aged structures, some of which are over 700 years old. With its balance between tradition, culture, and affordability, there are few other cities like this.

Chiang Rai

Chiang Rai is the place to explore the Golden Triangle on the borders of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar. The city is also home to a few museums dedicated to local heritage, culture, and art. Markets and a night bazaar offer food, handicrafts, souvenirs, and free cultural performances. The agricultural lands, plantations, scenic villas, and beautiful mountain ranges make this a renowned place to visit.

Phuket

Phuket is famous for its many beautiful beaches located mainly on its western coast and also because of excursions it offers to nearby islands. This island has a very well-structured infrastructure, plenty of beach resorts, a very varied cuisine offering, and plenty of leisure activities.

Frequently Asked Questions about Vietnam Thailand Tours

Do I need visas to visit Vietnam and Thailand?

Whether you need a visa to visit Vietnam and Thailand depends on your nationality and the duration of your stay.

Vietnam: To enter Vietnam, the majority of foreigners need a visa. However, there are exceptions for certain countries.

  • Visa Exemption: Citizens of several countries, including most ASEAN member states (e.g., Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia) and some other nations (e.g., Japan, South Korea, Russia), can enter Vietnam visa-free for short stays (typically 14-30 days).
  • E-Visa: Vietnam also offers an e-visa system for citizens of over 80 countries, which allows you to apply for a visa online with single or multiple entries.

Thailand: Thailand offers a lenient visa policy.

  • Visa Exemption: Citizens from many countries, including the United States, Canada, the UK, and most European nations, can enter Thailand without a visa for stays of up to 30 days for tourism purposes and 15 days if entering by land from neighboring countries.
  • Visa on Arrival: Thailand also offers a Visa on Arrival option for citizens of some countries (e.g., India, China, and several others), which typically allows a stay of up to 15 days.
  • Longer Stays: If you plan to stay longer than the visa-exempt period, you may need to apply for a tourist visa from a Thai embassy or consulate.

It’s important to double-check the specific requirements based on your nationality and travel plans, as visa policies can change.

Is it possible to pay in AUD?

Our rate is based on USD, and our bank will convert it to local currency if you pay with a credit card. In case you can pay in AUD by wire transfer, your bank will convert it to USD so that we get the USD amount.

What do you suggest we do on New Year's Eve in Hanoi? We are having dinner at the Sofitel Metropole. Do you have any suggestions?

There are a few events for Western New Year in Vietnam but not as many as the Lunar New Year (Tet Nguyen Dan). As far as you know, Tet is much more important to Vietnamese people, and Western New Year is just a short and normal holiday over here. So I reckon having dinner at the hotel is the best way.

I looked up the highest rated tailors based on best fabrics and quality craftsmanship. Can we go to one of the high end tailors in Hoi An and get this done in 2 days?

Concerning the clothes tailor-made, Hoi An is the best place. You will fall in love with this made-to-measure paradise. If you want to get a really good suit in Hoi An, they can certainly make it in two days for you, including fittings. However, if you can add one more day to Hoi An, that would be fantastic.

Do we need to wear full length pants when visiting the temples?

When visiting religious sites, travelers should wear jeans or pants under the knee and shirts or t-shirts covering the shoulder. And always remember to take off your shoes before entering a temple.

Are dinners included in our trip?

Most breakfasts and lunches are included for you throughout the tour; meanwhile, the majority of dinners are not covered because Vietnam and Thailand are such fascinating "foodie" destinations. With diverse cuisines and a wide range of restaurants, we find that travelers love discovering places that they like on their own for dinner. Yet we can arrange dinners beforehand if preferred, or your private tour guide can definitely suggest some great ideas. In some certain excursions, such as culinary tours, overnight cruises, or trekking trips in remote areas, dinners are included.

Can we extend our stay in Chiang Mai?

Absolutely! Let us know how you want to tailor your trip in Chiang Mai, and we will polish the tour program to your liking. This is the good thing about customized tours.

How do I get to the hotel from the airport once I arrive?

Upon arrival at the airport, please follow the signs to immigration and passport control, collect your luggage, and proceed through customs. Your private tour guide and driver will be waiting for you at the arrival hall with a welcome sign with your name on it. You will be taken directly to your hotel or the next destination as in the itinerary.

Does the tour rate include international flights?

The tour price does not include international flights. We don't organize the flights from your home country to this region because we find that it is typically less expensive for travelers to manage from their end, and it also gives you the flexibility to select the timetable and routing that works best for you. Websites like www.expedia.com, www.kayak.com, or www.momondo.com are always good places to check, or we can help you book them through an airfare consolidator specializing in international flights.

Will you book internal flights, or will I? If I need to, can you suggest the airline, and should I look at the morning, afternoon or evening?

Regarding the in-tour flights based on the itinerary, it would be better if the tickets are booked and issued from our end. Since we can follow up with the flights for you to ensure everything is going smoothly, and more importantly, we can deal with the airlines when a problem may arise. That helps you enjoy your peace of mind while on holiday the most because it is stress-free.

Are these tours suitable for children?

Yes! In truth, Vietnam and Thailand are among the best family destinations in Southeast Asia. Certain excursions may be more suited to younger ages than others. Let us know your kids’ ages, and we will create a trip that will keep your entire family engaged.
