Phi Phi Islands
Krabi
As the largest island in all of Thailand, Phuket has everything to offer within its coastline. From gorgeous beaches, delicious food, amazing natural parks, to access to some of the Andaman Sea’s most breathtakingly beautiful islands. Enjoying tropical weather all year round, the waters of Phuket come to life, brimming with marine habitats from November to February. Activities like snorkelling and scuba diving can be done at popular and scenic locations such as Phi Phi Islands and Similan Islands, which make for day trips by speedboat. Phuket is also the jumping-off point for visiting many islands surrounding such as James Bond Island, Koh Yao Islands... Home to a melting pot of Chinese, European and Thai culture due to its location on ancient trading routes, Phuket town heavily retains its diverse characteristics via its cuisine, cooking styles, architecture and historical museums and buildings. Explore the beautiful streets of Phuket Old Town with colourful townhouses, street paintings and murals in Sino-Portuguese style. Many old houses have been turned into cafes and museums. This area also has Thai temples and Chinese shrines embody how various religions and cultures coexist.
The Phi Phi Islands encompass an area of outstanding natural beauty. Situated in the Andaman Sea between Phuket and Krabi, this attractive collection of islands are characterised by inviting sandy beaches, turquoise seas and dramatic limestone cliffs. There are six islands which form the Phi Phi Islands: Ko Phi Phi Don, Ko Phi Phi Leh, Ko Yung, Ko Mai Phai, Ko Bida Nai and Ko Bida Nok. All of the islands are uninhabited except the largest island in the group, Phi Phi Don. Adorned with impressive limestone cliffs so characteristic of Krabi province, Koh Phi Phi Don has an unusual, almost skeletal shape. A very narrow strip of sand connects two asymmetrical pieces of the island and serves as its action epicenter. In Phi Phi Don, one can walk along the network of paved pathways and hillside trails or take a longtail boat to different beaches. Kayaks can also be rented to explore the coastline. For many people, a visit to Maya Bay is the highlight of a trip to the Phi Phi Islands. The stunning bay is located on Phi Phi Leh and featured in the 2000 movie, The Beach. Boat tours are available to take visitors to Phi Leh Lagoon with its gorgeous clear waters and on past Viking Cave. Although visitors aren’t allowed to entry the cave, you will be able to see the bamboo scaffolding which is used by the people collecting birds’ nests.
Krabi province that embraces both the mainland and some idyllic islands is characterised by unique limestone formations and lush vegetation. Its town with the same name is the main jump-off point for travellers en route to the beaches and islands surrrounding. Krabi town itself is quite generic but for those who venture into its northern interior will find Wat Tham Seua (Tiger Cave Temple), a hot springs waterfall and Khao Nor Chu Chi Wildlife Sanctuary which are ideal for trekking and eco tours. Home to beautiful beaches and islands, Krabi offers some of the stunning coral diving spots in the world, making it an excellent destination for diving enthusiasts and Instagram photograph hunters alike. Outstanding beaches like Railey Beach are sought by those looking for amazing photographs and by rock-climbing enthusiasts who come to conquer the towering limestone formations. Off the coastline, there are numerous islands lined all around Krabi for the island-hoppers including Koh Lanta and the famous Phi Phi Islands. Visitors can either ride long-tail boats, speed boats, ferry, or cruises to reach all the islands for swimming, snorkeling and diving.
